People email me and ask me why I never talk about the classics. Well, the first time, they misspelled it and I thought they wanted me to talk about pickles….think about it… but then I realized that they mean films. Well, I don’t watch films, I only watch movies! I won’t watch anything that has a message, or tries to teach me some moral lesson. I won’t watch most things that say they’re ‘based on a true story’, because that can mean that I wrote a movie about a guy with a car and they turned it into a James Bond movie, because he too, is a guy with a car. I won’t watch anything that has symbolism, because I’m smart enough to understand that it’s symbolism, but not smart enough to understand what’s being symbolized, so I just become frustrated and angry!

But, there’s an exception to
every rule and I do make exceptions for the true classics, like Dawn of the
Dead! Dawn of the Dead is a
classic, and I love it! Of course,
who doesn’t? And, it has all the
things I hate in a movie. So why do
I love it? Because it also has all
the things I love in a movie. Apparently,
there’s symbolism going on all over the place in these movies.
The zombies are supposed to represent capitalism and the living people
are communists, or maybe it’s the reverse.
And then there’s the scene in the mall, supposedly this is some kind of
statement by the director, what that statement may be, I have NO idea, but
that’s what I’m told. But, it
has a lot to like too. There’s
zombies, exploding heads, flesh ripping and eating, everything that’s great
about the movies is in there!!
If you haven’t seen it, why
not? This one is really worth
checking out. And if you have
seen it, see it again, I just can’t get enough of those wacky zombies and all
that symbolism and stuff. So until
next time, remember, symbolism-bad, flesh eating zombies-good, and the best
movies are bad movies!
