Top 10 Best Horror Movies (according to me)...Plus One!

Number 11 - Drag Me To Hell
If you're a Sam
Raimi fan, then you have to check this one out! Raimi returns to
horror, after toiling away in Spiderman land, in top form. This
story of a young banker who runs afoul of a gypsy, only to find out that
in three days a demon will appear and literally drag her to hell, may be
Raimi's best to date! Great story, filled with shocks and tension
and an ending that will make you jump out of your seat.

Diary Of The Dead If you love zombie movies, then you're sure to love George Romero's re-start of his zombie cycle. This one finds a group of young indie filmmakers who find themselves in the middle of the initial zombie outbreak. This 'shaky cam' movie, is probably what a 'first person' movie should be. There's a reason for the cameras to be there but it doesn't take away from the trademark Romero gore and, it's still a great movie that leaves you wanting more! This one really makes you want more.

The Descent
This is
the only 'chick flick' to show up on the list...and, when I say chick
flick, don't get the idea that there's a bunch of 'touchy-feely' crap
here. This story of a group of women who do a little cave diving,
only to find out that there's something already living in the case...and
it doesn't want company! This is one of the best horror movies to
feature an all female cast. And that's because the characters are
all realistic and believeable, there's not a cliche in the bunch!
Dark, claustrophobic and an amazing movie...turn the lights out and
enjoy!

Quarantine Speaking of 'shaky cam', here's one that does it justice again. The tale of a female reporter assigned to follow a fire department during an overnight shift. During their first call, the team find themselves in an apartment building with a woman who attacks them. When they attempt to get the wounded out, they now find that they've been sealed in the building with no way out! This is technically a remake of the Spanish movie, [REC], but it's well worth your rental dollar! And, without giving anything away, this is a zombie movie that gives us a believable reason for the zombies to be here...and one that will make you think!

Frontier(s) Set Texas Chainsaw in France, mix in some Nazis and you got yourself Frontier(s). This disturbing tale of a group of people who run afoul of a rural family of weirdoes, who's father happens to be a Nazi in hiding, when they try to escape, guess who happens to have a slaughterhouse in the backyard?! Dark, disturbing and...believe it or not...a political statement, Frontier(s) sets the bar pretty high for foreign horror.

The Girl Next Door
One of the things that can disturb me more than anything, is if a movie
feels like it could really happen...and that's definitely the case with
The Girl Next Door. Set in the 50s, this tells the tale of a girl
who's step mother doesn't want her, and convinces the neighbor kids that
torture can be fun! It's like Leave It To Beaver meets
Hostel...which might cause your to blow a fuse!

| Number 5 -
High Tension Here's a movie that starts as one thing and then ends as something completely different! The story is of a girl who's spending the holiday with a girlfriend and her family. But, when a maniac in a truck slaughters the family and kidnaps the friend, it's up to the girl to follow him and try to help! Besides being great for all the gore-hounds out there, this movie has an ending that will blow your mind! This is a movie that will have you on the edge of your seat...and then, when it's over...you'll rewind it to watch it over! Four Out Of Four Cigars!

| Number 4 -
Audition This is the
perfect 'date' movie. The story of a man who's looking for love
and sets up auditions for girls who he might want to date. He
actually finds a girl that he has feelings for...and all looks to be
right with the world, until we peek into the girls world, which is dark
and mentally disturbed! The first 3/4 of the movie is romance and
the last 1/4 turns the world on it's head! And, just what the hell
is in that sack!?!? Watch it with a friend
and don't tell him it's a horror movie...loads of fun!

Funny Games (1997)
A
great horror movie will make you feel uncomfortable at times.
Well, Funny Games not only makes you feel uncomfortable, but makes you
an accomplice to the crime! The story of two clean cut young men
who capture a family and then bet whether or not they'll live to see
tomorrow, isn't your standard movie, filled with characters talking to
the camera and other gimmicks to pull you out of (and into) the movie, Funny Games
is a top notch thriller that will make you feel like you need a shower
when it's all over.

Inside There's an instinct that we all have to protect the helpless, and who could be more helpless than a pregnant woman? Well, in this cool French movie, a pregnant woman is terrorized by a nurse who wants to adopt her baby...but she isn't willing to wait for the baby to be born and she's got some scissors and she wants the baby right now!! Set mostly in one place, this movie will make you squirm in your seat and then, when it's over, you'll wonder how a movie could end like that! Four Out Of Four Cigars!

The Last House On The Left (2009)
Ordinarily, I'm not a fan of
remakes, but when one can go balls out, like The Last House On The Left,
I can't help but be a fan. This story of a girl who runs across
the wrong people in a small town, only to be raped and killed will fill
you with revulsion and despair. Then, when the killers come across
the parents of the girl, you'll find yourself cheering for acts of violence that
will make your skin crawl! Unsettling and amazing, this movie is
easily the best horror movie of the last year!
