The Machine Girl

If you're not a fan of Kung Fu movies, then you're not going to enjoy this weeks movie.  But, if you love Hong Kong action movies, or horror movies, or both, then you're going to really love The Machine Girl!

The story here is pretty simple, Ami is a pretty normal school girl, with the minor exception that her parents killed themselves when they were shamed for being accused of being murderers.  Now Ami takes care of her younger brother, Yu, who is being bullied by local bullies.  Ami explains to her brother that violence never solves anything, it's the one lesson that they learned from their parents tragedy.  Well, when Yu is killed by the bullies, Ami snaps!  Her non-violence policy is changed and she decides that revenge is the only way to avenge her brother's death.  It's only then that she discovers that the gang leader who killed her brother is the son of the local Yakuza (that's the Japanese Mafia for those of you who've never watched these kinds of movies), and the Yakuza will do anything to keep his son safe and alive.  When she attacks the kid, Ami is captured and tortured for her troubles, and in the end, her arm is severed as part of her punishment.
Ami manages to escape from the Yakuza and make her way to the family of her brother's friend (who was also killed by the same gang), and Ami and her new friend, Miki join forces to destroy the Yakuza and his family for killing theirs.  The only problem is Ami's lack of one arm, but that's quickly solved by Miki husband, Suguru, who builds Ami an arm that is also a machine gun!  Now, when the group is attacked by Ninja, sent by the evil Yakuza, they're ready for the fight!  The Machine Girl may be the coolest flick to come out of Asia in quite some time, it stays true to the kung fu movies of the past, while adding it's own special spin and adding a ton of over the top violence!  Let's just say the scene with the 'drill bra' is one of the coolest ever...and yes, you read that right, I said drill bra!  The Machine Girl isn't for everyone, the violence is waaaaay over the top, when blood flows, it doesn't just run, it sprays everywhere, no one is left untouched and the entire cast is covered at one time or another!  And, there's a scene where Ami and Miki torture one of the Yakuza's henchmen to find where he's hiding that will make you cringe, not for the violence, but for the sheer fun these two innocent looking girls seem to be having bringing pain to this helpless man.

I'm giving The Machine Girl four out of four cigars, because it's one of those action/horror/kung fu movies that I'm sure I'll be renting again and again, it's just that cool, and after all, who doesn't dig a cute chick with a machine gun or a chainsaw for an arm?  So, until next time, when I'll still be hearing the kung fu screams in my ears, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
