Reminding you that The Best Movies Are Bad Movies
Did you ever sit down to watch a movie thinking that this movie was going to be the worst thing you've seen in a while? Then, when you've seen the movie, and LIKED it, thought to yourself that you should probably keep quiet about it? Well, my friends, I'm not that smart. Once again, I've wandered through the video store looking for the worst movie possible and I thought I found it, but sadly, this is a good movie! What movie am I talking about? Well, I'm embarassed to admit that I actually liked that Ashton Kutcher movie, The Butterfly Effect.
This is the story of Ashton, who's had problems with black-outs since he was a kid, and now that he's older, Ashton has done some research on memory and it's functions, and he's figured out that his brain is different. Not different, better than other people's brains, different, allows him to time travel into his own past! Now, this might sound a little goofy, but it's actually a well told story. Everytime Ashton goes back and changes something and it's not always for the better, in fact, quite the opposite. You see, when you change one little thing in the past, everything in the future changes. And while you might be in a better place, someone else might get hosed, and that's what happens here. First Ashton gets the girl and he's successful in college, but his girlfriend's brother is a psycho killer. So, he goes back again, and everything seems to be alright, but then one of his childhood friends has been institutionalized because he killed another childhood friend. So, after a couple more tries, Ashton figures out that you should just accept the past and move forward...good advice for all of us.
For being an "Ashton Kutcher movie", this is actually a very good movie, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed, I was expecting a more excruciating experience. So, if you're looking for a movie that people will make fun of you for watching, but you'll actually watch, then The Butterfly Effect is for you! After all, the best movies are bad movies, but every once in a while a bad movie can be a good movie!
