Well, I just watched one of the best horror movies ever made!!  That's right, I'm not ashamed to make that blanket a statement, because I'll forget I said it within an hour and deny all knowledge...that's the beauty of getting old, I can say anything I want and still have 'plausible deniability', just like President Reagan used to use!!

     The movie is Frailty, starring and directed by Bill Paxton.  This is the story of a small town dad with two boys who gets a 'message' from God to go forth and kill demons.  The problem is that the demons look just like people, so Bill's oldest boy thinks he's lost his mind, which he might have!

     Here's the deal, this is one of those stories that doesn't let you know what's going on until the end, and then you'll want to sit through it again just to make sure what you saw was there!  It's very rare for a movie to affect me this way, I think the last time was The Usual Suspects, and that was a pretty straight forward crime story with a twist.  In Frailty, the whole movie is twisted!  Once you start down the road, you don't know how to stop and you're not sure that you'd stop it if you could.  And the good news for you horror fans is that this is horror without relying on gore to scare.  You never see anyone killed, you get to watch the small boys as dad kills 'demons', which makes the horror even more effective.  By now, we've all seen the hack and gore that's usually present in horror movies, but to see the reaction of two innocents to this, makes it far more frightening.  

     Bill Paxton has grabbed the imagination here!  We've all known someone who's very devout in their beliefs, this story just asks us that if those beliefs are taken a bit too far, and what affect do your beliefs have on your children.  Ordinarily I don't like a movie that makes you think too much, but Frailty doesn't preach or try to send an 'anti-faith' message.  It's just a good movie what an original point of view!

     If you haven't seen this yet, WHY NOT???, get out to the store and get this movie.  It's horror, it's mystery, it's suspense, and it's great!  Bill Paxton is crazy, Matthew McConaughey is creepy and Powers Booth is there, what more could you want from a movie???  For me, it was perfect!  So, if you're still reading this, turn off the computer and get out there and get Frailty!  And remember, the best movies are bad movies!!
