Die And Let Live
If you know me personally, then you've probably heard me talking about an indie movie by Justin Channell, Raising The Stakes, which is one of the best indie movies I've ever seen! If you're heard me talking about it, you're probably ready to smack me, I thought this was such a great movie, I love to tell people about it, but this time, I'm not going to sing the praises of this movie. This time it's Justin's second movie, Die And Let Live.
Justin's second movie is his take on the zombie movie (like his first was his take on the vampire genre), the story revolves around two guys, one of whom wants to date a girl who he's had a crush on for a long time. When his friend throws a party, with the intent of getting his buddy together with the girl, the party is interrupted by the dead returning to life! Now, while that sounds a bit simple, you've really got to see the movie to understand the subtleties of it.
Too many
people overlook low budget movies, because they're trolling the video store for
the latest 'critically acclaimed' movie, well, they're missing out on some great
movies, and this is definitely one of them! If you love horror/comedies,
then you're going to love Die And Let Live, the mix of both jokes and gore is
amazing, it's very hard to mix both genres (as we all know), but Justin manages
to do it just fine in this, his sophomore feature. I'm giving Die And Let
Live three and a half out of four cigars,
and it only lost the half cigar because I'm forced to recuse myself slightly,
you see, I love Raising The Stakes so much that I invested some money in Die And
Let Live (a very small amount!) and am listed as an Executive Producer on the
project, but, if I had no involvement at all, other than watching the movie, I
can tell you, this is a definite four cigar movie!! So, until next time,
when I'll put on my Exec. Producers hat again, grab my giant cigar, and ask some
hot young lady to join me on the casting couch, remember that the best movies
are bad movies.
