Dexter (The Multimedia Experience)

Ordinarily, I reserve my site for movies on DVD but when something this good comes along, I can't help but share it.  If you have Showtime and you've been watching the cool series, Dexter, then you're going to be with me on this.  If you haven't, then this will give you something to look for that you will love!

First, a little background, Dexter Morgan is a blood spatter specialist for the Miami Police, he also has a nighttime activity...killing bad guys.  Yes, good old Dexter is a serial killer, but because of his upbringing he has a 'code' that only lets him kill people who he is sure deserves it.  So, working for the police and being a "bad guy" poses some interesting situations for our hero.  Now, the books are a great read, beginning with the first book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, then to Dearly Devoted Dexter and thru the most current release, Dexter In The Dark.  And, they don't follow the series, the series began filming when the first book was out, so it follows the series to a point, but there are differences...wild differences that make the book just as much fun as the series!

Now, if you're not a big reader, then you might want to check out the Showtime series, the first season of which is now of DVD.  This follows the first book (as I said) to a point, but the differences make this a cool companion to the book, or, if you're not a reader, just an excellent piece of TV!  The acting is top notch and the writing is just the best, and, if season one doesn't convince you to subscribe to Showtime just to see season two...then you might have some other problems, my friend! 

             Whether you're a horror fan, a fan of serial killer movies, or just a fan of great drama, then Dexter is for you!  It's all of those things wrapped up into one great package, and you'll find yourself wondering if there's something wrong with you for cheering for someone who is obviously disturbed and killing people for the pleasure of it...yet you will!  And, just to give you a taste, here's the shows opening titles, the tune is catchy and, if you're not careful, you'll find yourself humming it to yourself most of the day!

Dexter is definitely a four out of four cigar show, because it's so addictive that you'll find yourself wondering what happens next.  Forget your Heroes or your Losts, Dexter is the best thing on TV!!!  So, until next time, when I'll be lurking at the back of the video store...am I waiting for a victim?  Am I staling my prey?  Nope, just digging through the old DVDs looking for something that no one else will sit through, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
