Dark Ride
Well, it's taken me the better part of a year, but I've managed to see every one of the 8 Movie To Die For! Now, eight movies in a year might not sound like such a big deal to you, but when you watch as many movies as I do, getting the time to see movies you actually want to see can sometimes be difficult, and I really wanted to see all these movies, because the ones I had the chance to see in the theatre last November were exceptional...and I really just enjoy independent movies, much more so than the big budget stuff. Well, I just finished the last one, Dark Ride and I have to say, what a really great movie.
Here's the story: A group of kids on spring break find a flyer and decide to take a side trip to Coney Island (or a place like it) to ride one of the 'dark rides'. Now, a dark ride is one of those haunted house type rides in every carnival or fair, apparently that what the people who work there call them. So, our group of future victims head to the dark ride with the intent on breaking in and spending the night, just to save money on hotels, of course. Once they're inside the ride, one of the kids confesses that he knows about the ride and about a psycho that used to live inside the ride and kill people and pose them as part of the rides attractions, until he was caught and institutionalized. Well, you know what's coming next, the psycho is out and he's back in the ride and the kids start dying off one at a time. Dark Ride reminded me of the great Tobe Hooper movie, Funhouse, and it's a loving tribute to the slasher/monster movies of the 80s, this would fit right in with that genre!
I'm giving Dark Ride four
out of four cigars,
,
because it's just that good, the story moves along, the characters are all well
drawn for being, what is essentially cannon fodder for the monster, and there's
a twist ending that really made the movie for me. I won't give it away,
but once I began to suspect what was really going on, I was freaked out...well,
as freaked out as a movie might make me, anyway! So, until next time, when
I'll talk about the time I hid in the carnival ride terrorized people...let's
just say, you should always wear pants on the merry-go-round...until then,
remember that the best movies are bad movies!
