Presents
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres
Sometimes a TV show made into a movie is very good, like the Mission: Impossible movies (like Tom Cruise or not, they ARE pretty good action movies) or very bad, like The Beverly Hillbillies, but how do you take a TV cartoon that only lasts fifteen minutes and stretch it into a movie...well, that's a question that the guys who made the Adult Swim cartoon, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, should have given more thought to before they started.
Now, if you're a hardcore fan of the ATHF, then you're probably going to want to send me some hate mail, well, that's fine, but I have to be honest. I enjoy ATHF, but I'm not a hardcore fan. The movie is really for hardcore fans, all the regular characters are there, Carl, Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake make up the main cast and there are most of the characters made popular by the TV show, most tellingly Ignignokt, Err, Oglethorpe and Emory. The story, which is pretty convoluted and hard to follow, revolves around the ATHF finding out about their origins...sort of. If you think the 15 minute version is filled with non-sequitors and random humor, then, buddy, you ain't seen nuthin' yet, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres is as non-linear as it gets, jumping from a longer version of the TV cartoons closing credit sequence to a oddly animated music video of the show's theme and then into the story, which is so hard to follow that it's really not a story at all, as much as a series of random jokes and sketches featuring the ATHF characters.
I'm giving
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres one and a half out of four
cigars,
because, while I had high hopes, the movie really didn't live up to them.
The comedy that seems so great in short bursts just couldn't sustain the full
length feature. If you enjoy the Aqua Teens, then just pick up the series
on DVD, the movie is for hardcore fans only! So, until next time, when
we'll talk about why I get hungry every time I watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force,
remember that the best movies are bad movies.
