Four Brothers

After a week or so in forced R&R, I think it's about time to get back to the grind. It doesn't seem too bad having been forced to take it easy and stay off my feet for a few days, but it wasn't as nice as you might think...but that's enough complaining, let's get to it. While I was recovering, I had the chance to catch up on a few movies...not too bad, eh? This time, let's talk about a movie that I expected to be really, really bad. Four Brothers.

Here's the story: Set in Detroit, Four Brothers is the story of four delinquents who were adopted by a kind lady, now, years later, after they've all left home, she's is brutally murdered in a liquor store robbery. Now, the brothers return home, but they don't believe that her death is any mere chance and they begin to dig into the case themselves. The story twists from organized crime, to paid off city officials, to dirty cops until the brothers find who really killed their mother and why.

Now, Four Brothers isn't what you'd call a complicated movie, but it's actually pretty good. Mark Walhberg grows on me more every time I see him perform...bar that Planet Of The Apes remake! And Andre 3000 is a better actor than I imagined. I'm giving Four Brothers three and a half out of four cigars,

because, for being a veiled remake of The Sons Of Katie Elder, it's a great revenge movie. If you're just looking for an afternoon of rooting for the good guys and jeering the bad guys, without too much more, then Four Brothers is definitely for you! So, until next time, when we'll discuss how the Detroit of Four Brothers isn't too far removed from the Detroit of reality, remember that the best movies are bad movies!

I've seen this movie a couple of times now and I agree with you that everytime i see Mark Walberg in a movie he grows on me more and more. He did an excellent job in The Departed as well.

I just saw The Departed too, there'll be a write up down the road, but I thought it wasn't all that great. Much inferior to the original, Infernal Affairs. I don't understand how it won an Oscar for Scorsese when he lost for many more superior movies!

I think my vote will still go for the original Japanese movie, although the performances by Wahlberg, Baldwin and Nicholson were superior, I have to say that neither Damon or DiCaprio impressed me as too much of a stretch for either of them.
