For Your Consideration

First, let me just say that I'm a big Christopher Guest fan. I loved Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show and I even found A Mighty Wind funny, but his newest movie, For Your Consideration is mildly amusing...at best!



The story here is pretty simple, a small movie, Home For Purim, suddenly finds itself in the middle of a media blitz after a rumor begins circulating that one of the cast will probably be nominated for an Academy Award. Now, there are a couple of funny segments in the movie, the director wanting the set lit completely, the "entertainment" reporters and some of the agents sections are funny...but not really laugh out loud funny like Guest's past movies.

I think the problem here might be that the cast, the ensemble that Guest uses in all his movies, are becoming either too comfortable with Guest's quirky characters or they're becoming bored with the process of these mostly improved movies. The spark that was there in all of his earlier movies just isn't there this time, which is sad, because I really wanted to like this movie too!

I'm giving For Your Consideration two out of four cigars,


and it only got that high a rating because I'm still a Christopher Guest fan...I mean, come on, the guy married Jamie Lee Curtis, that alone earns him one cigar!! So, until next time, when I'll reveal that Angelina Jolie is probably the least sexy woman in Hollywood, and then prepare to defend myself, remember that the best movies are bad movies!
