Black Christmas

How can you tell that a movie isn't a hit and isn't even expected to do that well on DVD? Well, if it's attached to a holiday, like Black Christmas, you can tell when it's released on DVD in March! A movie that's a hit around the holiday season, (take Elf for example) is held until the next year's holiday to be released. Now maybe I'm wrong and the release of Black Christmas in March is more a testimony to it being a horror movie than a holiday related film...but I don't think so!

In case you missed the original 1974 version of Black Christmas, here's the basic story: Billy killed his whole family a long time ago on Christmas, now his house is a sorority house and Billy's been institutionalized for years. Well, when Billy escapes and heads home, all hell breaks loose when he begins killing sorority sisters one at a time. The only difference really between this and the original Black Christmas is the back story that's given to the killer, Billy. In the original Billy is seen but never heard, in this he's not only seen, but he's given an almost sympathetic back story...and a sibling to help with all that heavy lifting!

If I was looking for a Christmas related horror movie, I'd probably stick with the original version of Black Christmas, while it might seem a bit dated, it's a far superior movie to this retread! I'm giving the 2006 version of Black Christmas one out of four cigars,

and that one is only because, while the movie isn't as good as the original, it's much better than some of the other crap that's making it into theatres these days! So, until next time, when I'll be looking for an Easter related horror movie...insert your own rabbit joke here...remember that the best movies are bad movies.
