Batman Begins
Is everyone ready for this? Confession time...I'm actually a huge geek! There, I said it and I feel better. You can't get better until you admit the problem, right? Well, actually, I don't have a problem being a geek. I let me geek flag fly every day...damn that sounded dumb! Anyway, I just had the chance to check out the DVD of Batman Begins and I have to say, this is probably the best Batman movie since the Michael Keaton original.
While I had my reservations about Christian Bale, it turns out that he's a pretty good young Bruce Wayne. I did have a few problems with the movie though and they're a bit nit-picky. First, Bruce's parents weren't killed outside of an opera, it was a movie. Remember they went to see The Mark Of Zorro...no, not the Antonio Banderas movie, the original. And Bruce's guilt stems from his having picked the movie. Second, I don't remember the Scarecrow being involved in any way with Arkham Asylum, except being committed there. And third, since when is Ras Al Ghul an British nobleman??
Yes, these are trivial, but, hell, I gotta bitch about something don't I?? And, overall this is a great Batman movie, the story is great, the suit is cool, Bale captured the duality of the role perfectly and I'll probably end up watching it again! So there you have it, I'm a Batman geek from way back and now I'm out of the closet.
So, until the next time, when I'll show up in my Star Trek uniform and try to give you the Vulcan nerve pinch, remember, the best movies are bad movies!
